Hol Chan Marine Reserve is one of Belize’s major attractions, the Hol Chan Marine Reserve, located approximately three miles off the coast of Ambergris Key and Caye Caulker. Hol Chan Marine Reserve is considered the most popular snorkeling spot in Belize Central America.

Hol Chan Marine Reserve has a lot of sharks and stingrays. They have two sites: the Hol Chan Marine Reserve itself, a small channel located right on the barrier, protected since 1987, and Shark Alley right next to it.

Zone C is the mangrove island itself, so it’s where the nurseries of the fishes are. And then Zone D is Shark and Ray Alley. Everything is covered in 22.3 square miles of reserve.

Well, the barrier reef is the second largest barrier reef in the world, apart from Australia, which has the largest barrier reef in the world. This is the second living coral reef system. And on the reef here, there are so many different species of fish. There are even turtles around, and there are eagle rays, moray eels, dolphins, and manatees that come around occasionally.

Well, out on the reef area, there are two different spots where it’s a shallow area, where people who are afraid of getting in the water can also stand in the water. It’s about waist-deep. And there are areas in Hol Chan where you can just dive in, you know, do a back roll entry. It’s deeper, like seven feet deep. So, snorkeling in this area, you always use a life jacket to be safe. And apart from being safe with a guide who will make sure that you get out there and navigate out there and come back to the boat safely, the fishes and sharks, do not care about us whatsoever.
